WHAT IS PALM OIL?

Palm oil is an edible plant oil that is obtained from the outer fibrous pulp of the fruit of the oil palm tree, Elaeis guineensis (native to west Africa) and Elaeis oleifera (native to the Americas). Consumption and use of Palm Oil is extremely common among American consumers. Currently the second largest edible oil, in terms of global production, it is the most commonly exported oil. Recent estimates state that within the next decade, palm oil will be the most commonly traded oil worldwide. Grown in massive plantations in tropical nations, it is used in over 50% of all consumer goods from soaps and detergents to breakfast cereals and bio-fuels.
